This exhibition comes out of a sense of being stuck in time, or maybe being pushed back into it. History feels less like a line than a loop we keep tripping over. Things repeat not because we want them to, but because they are built to. Arguments, borders, systems of value, even feelings. They come back slightly altered, slightly louder, but fundamentally unchanged.
Repetition here is not treated as something neutral or meditative. Sometimes it is how power maintains itself, through routine, bureaucracy, habit, and the expectation that we will keep complying. Sometimes it is how people survive, by returning to the same gestures, materials, conversations, and practices until they hold enough meaning to resist collapse.
The works in this show move between those positions. They circle around repetition as labour, as obsession, as care, as exhaustion. There is a constant tension between doing something again because it is demanded of you, and doing it again because you refuse to let it disappear. Value is counted, bodies are scanned, language is worn thin. Images accumulate, fade, or misbehave. Nothing fully settles.
What matters is not whether repetition leads to clarity. Often it does not. What matters is the insistence of staying with it. Repeating can be a way of avoiding change, but it can also be a way of forcing it, slowly, and without spectacle. A practice rather than a gesture.
This exhibition sits with the discomfort of returning, again and again, to what is unresolved. It asks whether repetition is always a trap, or whether, under pressure, it can still become a form of movement.

ARK Repetition celebrated the rebirth of the legendary ARK magazine. Originally created by RCA students, ARK was a groundbreaking style and design journal published between 1950 and 1978, emerging during a time of profound cultural transformation across fashion, film, television, advertising, and publishing. Its influence was so significant that it featured contributions from creative luminaries such as Ralph Rumney, Lucio Fontana, Alison and Peter Smithson, Toni del Renzio, and Reyner Banham.
